Obstacle Avoidance
This meeting coming up on Saturday, we'll work more on our obstacle avoiding robot. We can also use the same concepts to turn it into an obstacle detecting sumo bot! We'll also work on programming the robot in C rather than in JavaScript. Here's a video using the newest bot design:
Proximity Detection
I've been working for a while trying to figure out a reliable way to use the HC-SR04 ultrasonic proximity detector with this robot. Thanks to the good people down under at Nodebots Australia, I think we've got it working great!
When my hand is away, the robot drives forward. When my hand is in front of the sensor, the robot turns to the right to avoid it, then continues to move forward when my hand (the obstacle) is gone. Check it out in this little video:
Kids can drive their own education to prepare for today’s jobs.
This is a giant part of why we started The Computer Club. With few exceptions from more affluent schools, our kids aren't learning in school what they need to to prepare for today's jobs. Hack Club seeks to change that and we are inspired by their pursuit:

Placer 4-H County-Wide Project
We're super excited that we're going to be starting a new series of Hack Club events with Placer County 4-H!
An information night will be held on Friday, September 8 at 6pm.
Meetings are the 2nd and 3rd Friday of each month beginning in October.

Are you Ready for International Nodebot Day?
This Saturday, we are hosting an event in celebration of International Nodebot day.
We will be building little sumobots using lasercut frames and simple electronics powered by Arduino and the Johnny-Five javascript library. When we finish our bots, we will test them out in the sumo ring!
July Computer Club Coding Meeting – Saturday 7/15/17
Held at our Hacker Garage on Saturday July 15, 2017.
Our programming is getting FANCIER: This meeting will start our Collaborative Sketch project! Draw with one or more friends! In this project we’ll be combining HTML, p5.js, Firebase, and jQuery to create a collaborative sketchpad. We’ll use p5.js to manipulate the drawing space, Firebase to keep track of our drawing in terms of points that we’ve marked in our drawing, and jQuery to easily manipulate HTML elements.
